Baraka Organic shea butter

Hand-crafted, certified Organic and Fair Trade, Baraka Shea Butter is hand-made by hard-working women in northern Ghana villages. Each nut is carefully gathered from wild, natural shea forests and carefully prepared to ensure all the natural goodness emerges, uncontaminated by pesticides and herbicides. The butter is hand-processed using age-old traditional methods. No chemicals, no additives. Just pure shea butter full of natural goodness.

Whipped shea butter has a lightness to it for easy application to skin and hair. It is suitable to be applied neat to scalp, hair, face, body and under the feet. It can be added to your lotion for a boost of moisturising properties.

It can be used as a facial mask. Apply a fingertip amount to clean, damp face and leave on for 20-30 minutes, those with oily skin should adjust based on the amount of time their skin can handle. Using a warm, damp face cloth, remove the shea butter and enjoy a softer, moisturised and smoother, glowing face.

Can be applied to the fire burn scars to help with the itchiness and irritation. It helps moisturise the affected the skin and ease itching. Should not be used to substitute medical advice.

FAQ

1. My shea butter has a strong, sharp smell. What is that smell and is it safe for use? That strong smell is the sign of rancidity, where oxygen has reacted with the shea butter and shows that the oil is no longer of  high quality. This oil is no longer effective but could still be used for moisturising the skin. Due to rancidity, the mineral content of the shea butter is no longer the same and may not result in smoother, softer skin. It is advisable to discard it and open a new jar.
2. My shea butter has small, grain like balls in it. Is it still safe for use? Yes, it is still safe for use. The small grain like balls are caused by uneven cooling of the shea butter. When shea butter melts, it should be cooled evenly by perhaps putting in the fridge.  Once the shea butter is grainy, remelt it gently over a water bath and put in the fridge to cool evenly. Note that it will lose its whipped, lightness texture.
3. Can I use shea butter on babies and pregnant women? Yes, it is a natural, traditionally processed shea butter that is suitable for babies and pregnant women. In the unlikely event that irritation occurs, stop using immediately.
4. Can I use shea butter for cooking? Even though we do not market our shea butter for cooking purposes, shea butter is safe for preparing meals. However, ensure that it is the only ingredient and has no additional ingredients such as vitamin E.
5. I have an oily face that is acne-prone, can I still use shea butter for my face? Test, test, test. As the only change to your facial routine, introduce small amounts of shea butter and observe if there will be a flare up of acne. If there is, test if using it as a mask can work, adjusting exposure time accordingly, rather than as a facial lotion. Many have  tried the mask option and it worked effectively, once a week.
